Confab, my home away from home

ConfabLive blogging from Confab, my content strategy home! Although I missed out on the workshops yesterday, Twitter kept me well informed of some highlights:

@trisaratopsRAWR: If you can find users who love your brand but hate your website, you won’t be able to find them for long.

@ellawilla: If your content is not there to do something for the user then it is taking up space

@fancymilk: Write in plain English. It’s not “dumbing down,” it’s respecting people’s time.

@kathleen_eliz: SEO keywords should match user search terms, not yours.

@erikareynolds: Designers can move forward without actual content if they have proper content models

@adriennematt: You should be able to name your Persona’s objectives, orientation and obstacles

@gigigriffis: If people can’t get to your content, it basically doesn’t exist.

@kathleen_eliz: Deal with content from the beginning. Content and design should work together. Create an organic style guide

@gigigriffis: All caps slow down reading by about 15%. (In addition to making people feel shouted at.)

@Social_Em: The purpose of testing is not to reach statistical significance, it’s an ongoing process to continually improve your content

@gigigriffis: Put what people already know in the left column of the table. A table is a series of if-then sentences, says – @GinnyRedish

Enough of yesterday. On to today, Day One of Confab!!

About Marli Mesibov

I believe health is inextricably linked to economics, education, and wellness. How does content strategy impact health? Patients can't care for a chronic condition if they don't understand what their doctor is telling them. They (we!) can't take the medication if the pill bottle makes no sense. And they can't make health improvements unless they are motivated to make lifestyle changes. You can find me at Verily in Cambridge, MA, on Twitter as @marsinthestars, or speaking at UX and content strategy conferences. I am passionate about improving the lives of people around the world.
